Our client is a retail company with a large presence in Chile and Peru, whose development team was looking for a generative AI platform for coding. They had around 200 developers, so the scenario was challenging; the organization had the need to adopt artificial intelligence and to generate a direct impact on their processes, but they didn't have the knowledge about how to implement this improvement.

That's when our Clevers, specialists in GitHub solutions, introduced them to our GitHub Copilot adoption program a powerful assistant that, with AI, helps improve developer productivity, being one of the most adopted tools in the world. The program would allow our client's developers to adopt GitHub Copilot easily and with a high impact.

A clever-style adoption

Our adoption program was implemented with a first group of 50 developers, divided into pilot teams designated by the same customer. We worked with them in three stages that allowed us to deepen our knowledge and effective use of GitHub Copilot:

1. Initial Assessment: The first step is to understand our client's culture, with interviews to learn how they work and with what tools. In addition, based on the definition of the pilot teams, each one's initial technical competencies are evaluated through Groowcity, a solution created by CleverIT to accelerate the adoption of new technologies.

2. Training sessions: Throughout the program, we train and train client developers in the efficient use of GitHub Copilot, through practical and theoretical sessions that were adapted to their company's development lifecycle.

3. Monitoring usage: Through our tool Pulzen, we continuously evaluate the use and effectiveness of the adoption of GitHub Copilot in teams, measuring aspects such as the acceptance rate of suggestions, lines of code and suggestions delivered by GitHub Copilot through chat.

Additionally, as part of the evaluations throughout the program, CleverIT incorporated a gamified system to boost developer learning: In each evaluation passed in Groowcity, they could win Clever Coins and exchange them for goodies from our partner GitHub.

Impact on the customer

After a two-month adoption process, our client was able to see results from using GitHub Copilot on its pilot teams. Among them, we highlight the following:

Improved productivity from 25% to 30%: This is a continuous process of improvement for teams, and we have an immediate impact on the sustained use of the new development tool.

36.4% acceptance of lines suggested by GitHub Copilot: With this, we can clearly see the immediate use of the platform, which was increasing month by month within the teams.

Our client achieved greater efficiency in onboarding the tool, so they can project sustained use over time that can translate into greater efficiency. CleverIT's management of the entire adoption process allowed the developers of the pilot teams to better integrate GitHub Copilot into their daily lives, learning in a short time thanks to the material provided by our specialists. The next challenge for the customer will be how to enhance artificial intelligence in other processes, to continue to improve the productivity of the entire development area.
